چکیده

AIMS To describe a method of securing indwelling O'Donohughe's lacrimal tubes in dacryocystorhinostomy using two 3-4 mm Watski sleeves. METHODS The operative technique used to secure the sleeves into position on the lacrimal tubes is described. Forty seven procedures with a follow up ranging from 3 to 30 months (mean 10 months) are reviewed. RESULTS The tubes and sleeves were well tolerated. Upward prolapse of the tubes occurred only once and the tubes were easily repositioned in this case. CONCLUSION Securing lacrimal tubes with Watski sleeves in dacryocystorhinostomy is a simple, cheap, and effective procedure.

Prevention of prolapsed silicone stents in lacrimal intubation using an intrasac fixation suture.

Silicone stents are routinely used for the maintenance of patent mucosal passages in patients with nasolacrimal disorders. A common complication associated with the use of silicone stents is lateral migration or displacement of the tubes, which can be difficult to correct. This report describes a modified Quickert-Dryden approach with fixation of the tubes by an intrasac suture. From 1990 to 19...

RESULTS The pain score was significantly lower in patients who received the...

Silicone Intubation Does not Improve the Success of Dacryocystorhinostomy in Primary Acquired Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction

The role of silicone intubation in routine dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) surgery remains unclear. Recent studies provide a higher level of evidence against intubation in DCR. Intubation of the nasolacrimal duct with silicone tubes has largely arisen as a result of history, anecdote and the evolution of DCR surgery rather than being based upon sound evidence. Silicone intubation has gained popular...

Silicone Intubation Indications in External Dacryocystorhinostomy

External dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) is the gold standard surgical technique for the treatment of nasolacrimal duct obstruction (1). Since its introduction by Gibbs in 1967, intubation with silicone tubes has been widely used in lacrimal duct surgery (2). However, effect of silicone intubation on patency of lacrimal system during external DCR in cases of primary nasolacrimal duct obstruction (N...
